Work, children, exams, shopping, administrative tasks... There are a whole bunch of things that can stress us out on a daily basis and we all go through at least once in our lives a moment of anxiety that comes put our serenity to the test!

Everyone has experienced stress in their life. Some people are even much more sensitive to these moments of stress than others. Are you one of the people who think all day, who lack confidence or who ask themselves a billion questions? Then this article is made for you.

We will offer you different methods to find calm and serenity on a daily basis. But, it will be up to you to find the method that suits you best! Indeed, as the reaction to stress depends on each person, so does the method. Maybe it will suit someone close to you, but not for you. We must therefore test, listen to ourselves and analyze what works best. This is the perfect opportunity to take time for yourself and therefore get away from all sources of stress.

What is zenitude?

Zenitude is a state of tranquility, calm and serenity. Through this attitude, we seek balance and harmony within ourselves but also around ourselves. It's a sort of philosophy of life. The Zen attitude requires a certain detachment from one's emotions but also from one's external environment. This detachment does not mean resignation but a desire not to let oneself be overwhelmed by emotions, knowing how to put things into perspective to deal with situations. The goal of this attitude is to restore mental, physical and emotional balance but also balance in relationships and situations.

The key word is therefore to live in the present moment!

Why adopt a Zen attitude?

To avoid mental overload, depression, or even burn out. Adopting a zen attitude will help you avoid getting to that point. Many people wait until they cross a line before taking care of themselves and listening to themselves.

In today's world, we are constantly in demand, especially with social networks and the information around us which is not always very reassuring: climate, epidemic, etc. It's hard to stop and disconnect. However, it is essential! If these are sources of stress for you, stay away from them.

How to adopt a Zen attitude?

Theory is good but practice is better!

As soon as you feel stress, lack of confidence or ask yourself too many questions, choose one of these methods:

Practice mindfulness

Most of the time, we live in the past or the future, constantly questioning ourselves. One thing is certain, we cannot change the past or control the future. On the other hand, we can take full advantage of the present moment and what it has to offer us. The first thing to do is to live in the present moment. But how to do it ? Meditation is a good example because it allows you to connect with yourself and your emotions. It is also a good exercise to feel relaxed, peaceful and serene. In addition, practicing meditation allows you to recharge your batteries.

If you practice mindfulness meditation for 1 to 2 months, you will be able to feel physical and psychological benefits on stress.

Take a step back

Indeed, taking a step back is essential to change your perception of the situation. Isolate yourself for a few minutes to take the time to integrate the situation and your emotions. For example, you can go for a walk, try not to pick up your phone and admire nature. During this time, you can analyze the situation, your thoughts, your emotion and only then decide what you are going to do. We tend to react directly, on impulse and our emotions, but that is not a good thing.

We also tend to believe that it is others who create our emotions but this is false. Our emotions are our own and are the result of our thoughts. For example, if my manager cancels our meeting, I can tell myself that he is doing it on purpose and I feel angry, I send him an email expressing my dissatisfaction. Instead, analyze the situation neutrally. With hindsight, I will be able to improve my presentation even if I feel angry. But instead, I'm going to offer him another meeting date.

Breathing

Several breathing techniques exist to feel relaxed and peaceful.

The first is complete breathing, practiced in particular by doing yoga. It is very simple :

  • Breathe slowly through your nose for a count of 4;
  • Hold your breath for a count of 4;
  • Exhale slowly through your nose for a count of 4;
  • Hold your breath for a count of 4;
  • Repeat the exercise 2 to 4 times.

This exercise brings calm, serenity and appeasement. You will feel relaxed.

The second technique is as follows:

  • Breathe normally but be aware of the air entering through your nostrils and passing inside your body.
  • You can do this with all your members. For example, feeling your chest rise. You can also put your hands on your stomach to feel the sensations.
  • Then take a deep breath through your nose and exhale in one intense breath. This exhalation allows you to release all this stress, this pressure that you feel.
  • Welcome emotions, do not try to control them. Let yourself go.
  • After a few breaths, return to normal breathing.
  • Take the time to open your eyes, to feel your body before starting something else.

Both of these techniques are deeply relaxing.

They allow you to take a step back and not react impulsively. More importantly, focusing on your breathing allows you to live in the present moment, to be “here and now”. It will not take more than 5 minutes of your day but you will see long-term benefits.
